Toilet etiquette for Kids

Don’t you always fear that your child might catch some infection if he/she uses a dirty washroom?

An unkempt washroom is a home to a multitude of infections. Before school, the child is usually accompanied to the washroom but as he/she grows and spends time outside the home it is bound to happen that the child will use washrooms that might not be completely hygienic. Hygiene is important, especially when the child is in a growing age and more prone to infections. As a parent, it is important to teach the basic etiquettes to them, right from the start. Amidst a plethora of other important things, remember that toilet manners play an important role in shaping your child’s personality(and keeping him /her healthy).

Lift the seat if you want to pee or poo.

The child should be able to differentiate between a clean and an unclean seat especially when they start going to school. The school washrooms are used by hundreds of children each day. Usually, in a haste, children sit on dirty seats and catch infections. Tell them how to wipe and sit on the seat and never on the floor.

Flush the toilet after use.

This is an important etiquette, children should know the toilets have to be used by other people too. “Flush after Use” is a mandatory lesson to be taught at an early age. Only this way can we create a cycle of cleanliness in our community.

Wash your hands with soap.

You can just not miss on this! It is a must and should be repeated again and again up to the time that the child adapts to this habit. Infections come uninvited through hands or while the child sits on the seat.

There are some serious infections like the UTIs (Urinary Tract Infections) caused due to an improper use of the washrooms. We live in a country where the sanitation conditions at a few places are abominable. It has to be a combined effort on our part to encourage toilet etiquettes right from the childhood. Kids learn from what they see and parents play the most important role in teaching them how to stay clean. It all begins at home!

This World Toilet Day let’s encourage a healthy use of washrooms across the country. By educating children about the washroom etiquettes we are eliminating the risk of an unhealthy future generation.
